Nigeria international and Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel have signed for Middlesbrough. He snubbed call from former teammate Frank Lampard to join him in Derby County.
According to reports, Mikel had talks with Boro manager Tony Pulis and Derby manager Lampard. However, Mike chose to move to Boro instead of joining Lampard.
Middlesbrough will soon announce the signing after he passed a medical and agreed personal term with the Championship outfit from Tianjin Teda, China.
Mikel’s reason for snubbing other clubs in Turkey and also in China was for family reasons. He wanted to be with his wife and children and Boro is the closest to them
Middlesbrough has hope to go for a playoff as they are currently occupying the fifth positions after 28 matches in the division.
Mikel is now 31 years of age and in his career in England he spent 11 years at Chelsea and won one Champions League title, two Premier League titles, one Europa League, three FA Cups and the League Cup.
