FA to reduce Nonhome grown players from 17 to 13

FA to reduce Nonhome grown players from 17 to 13

As Brexit is looking real the English Football Association is trying to see how it will affect the Premier league.

The resents meeting of the FA with the EFL and the Premier League is to strategized plans so as to help the economy of Britain during the exit of the EU. They are coming up with new strategies and policies.

Talks are still on going as to the number of homegrown players that would be in a team. According to a source, the FA now wants to reduce the number of non-homegrown players from 17 to 13 so as to give way for homegrown players so as to bring the best of the British footballers just as it helping the English National team coached by Gareth Southgate. The English team were able to get to the semi-final of the world cup with many young players in their ranks. Many of whom play for various clubs in England.

However top clubs in England have rejected the proposal as they feel it would hurt their teams. A team is to have only 25 players and since 2001 the FA rule allows for 17 nonhome grown.

The FA may have come to the conclusion because of the total number of nonhome grown players that are currently playing in the Premier league. 2018-19 season record shows that, 270 nonhome grown started the season which is an average 13 players per team.

If this policy takes place it will affect the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, have the current maximum 17 nonhome grown players.
