Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria, ASUU has begun strike. The strike was embarked on because of the Government not listening to their call to increase the minimum wage. It was earlier reported that the Labour Congress was to meet with the Federal Government on Sunday, but they shun the meeting and effort to reach they on phone proved abortive.
Although the Organized Labour has fixed Tuesday 6th of November to embark on strike, the Academic Staff Union of Universities decided to start theirs Monday 5th November.
According to ASUU, the strike would be indefinite. The National president of ASUU Professor Biodun Ogunyemi describe the funding of Universities as very poor and should be improved. He also gave a directive to all academic staff of universities in the country to with immediate effect stop work.
Professor Biodun Ogunyemi declared the strike at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting that was held at (FUTA) Federal University of Technology Akure in Ondo State.
