U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to bypass Congress with emergency power so as to end Government shutdown as well as to pay for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Stretching into its 20th day of the US partial shutdown, Trump flew to the Texas border with Mexico to try to support his case on the wall.
Trump told reporters: “We can declare a national emergency. We shouldn’t have to, this is just common sense.”
According to his lawyers, Trump has the power to invoke national emergency powers so as to get the well funded.
Trump told reporters at the White House: “I have the absolute right to declare a national emergency, I’m not prepared to do that yet, but if I have to, I will.”
Trump knows that such a step would be resisted by the House Democrat through courts but he believes even with that he would come victorious.
The standoff between Trump and House Democrats has left a quarter of the federal government closed down and hundreds of thousands of federal employees without pay.
Trump says the House Democrat is much harder to deal with than China. He said that because they refused his demand and he stormed out of the meeting with them.
Trump is referring to House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said: “I find China, frankly, in many ways to be far more honourable than Crying Chuck and Nancy. I really do.”
